Newburgh Elks Donate to Miles of Hope

Robert McCormick, President of the Newburgh Elks, presents check to Miles of Hope Executive Director Pari Forood
The Newburgh Elks Club raises money for local charities every year at their annual barbeque at their headquarters on Washington Street in Newburgh. The outing usually coincides with three incongruous things: Fall, football, and Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
For the past two years, the organization has made a donation to the only regional breast cancer charity helping Dutchess and Orange Counties- the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation.
In the photo, Robert McCormick, President of the Newburgh Elks, makes the presentation of a donation of $350 to Miles of Hope Executive Director Pari Forood last Saturday.
“This is a favorite event of mine,” explained Ms. Forood. “Everyone is so genuine, and kind– they understand what it means to help others when they are in need. We fund support services and outreach for people affected by breast cancer within the 8 counties of the Hudson Valley including Orange and Rockland counties. All of this donation will go to helping people with breast cancer right here in our community.”
One of the programs funded by Miles of Hope helps the breast cancer patient with financial emergencies not covered by insurance. “If someone is in treatment and they can’t pay a bill, we will step in and pay it for them,” added Ms. Forood.
“The generosity exhibited here by the Newburgh Elks should serve as an example to everyone. People helping people.”
