Cathy Varunok, Miles of Hope co-founder, will present the scholarship winners at the Foundation’s Annual Spring Brunch on May 3, at the Grandview in Poughkeepsie. “Two of the scholarships are funded by my family in honor of my sister Betty Howard, who died from breast cancer, and my brother Michael Benecke. I am honored to meet these young people and know that we are helping them on their way to a bright and successful future.”
Miles of Hope funds support services for people affected by breast cancer within the eight counties of the Hudson Valley.
“Every year we give away scholarships to high school seniors whose lives have been affected by breast cancer,” explained Foundation Executive Director, Pari Forood. “These students have been through an ordeal in their lives, and they write about it in an essay for the application that is both poignant and emotional. They are mature young people deserving of every award we can give them.”
