Dragon Boat Race and Festival 2016

DDBF_Poster_Small_PhotocopyThe Dragon Boat Race and Festival on July 23, at the Hudson River Rowing Association Boathouse, 270-272 N Water St, Poughkeepsie, will benefit both the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation and Arts Mid Hudson. The day long celebration and competition will feature 8 dragon boats transported to the Hudson Valley by 22 Dragons of Montreal, Canada. Individual paddlers as well as corporate teams will compete on the Hudson River from 8:00 – 3:00.

Festival details: While the Dragon Boat Races proceed on the Hudson River, the Festival runs along the shore. Master Kwan returns for the third year to perform the Lion Dance for the opening and closing ceremonies. The Roadhouse Roosters will perform on the main stage this year, bringing uptempo boogie, blues and rock repertoire with electric and acoustic slide guitar.

Under the festival tent there will be art demonstrations by local artists and experiential stations for origami, kite making, calligraphy, and dragon face painting for children. Local artists will demonstrate and exhibit their art, and the Chinese food arts will be demonstrated for all to see how to make dumplings, spring rolls and other Chinese delicacies. Community groups will be present to share information on their services. The festival also includes local food vendors serving up fresh treats, including Twisted Soul, YumYum Noodle truck, Lemon Love, Nino’s Big Bite, Tea Talk, Reggae Boy, and Carole’s Hot Dogs. The culmination of the day will be the presentation of the Dragon Boat racing awards by Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro.
