Ladies’ Night Out Thurs Aug 23


Take the night off and enjoy yourself – and support Miles of Hope!

On Thursday, August 23rd, 3:00 – 9:00, come to the Village of Warwick in Orange county.

The Village of Warwick Merchants Guild invites everyone, but in particular, the ladies, to come downtown and indulge themselves with specials and treats offered by participating businesses.  Whether strolling through stores offering extended shopping hours, tasting the flavors of the fine restaurants, dancing to the sounds from our DJ, or simply relaxing at one of Warwick’s many outdoor cafes, “Ladies’ Night Out” is a night to join with friends and family for an evening of summer fun.

“Queen for a Day” will be crowned at 8 PM on the Railroad Green. Promoting Miles of Hope. This event is now on its 15th year. Sponsored by Safe Homes of Orange County, an outreach program for victims of domestic violence. Click for event poster.

First Annual Pink Friday in Warwick

Pink Friday is the brainchild of Tim Mullally, owner and operator of two clothing retail stores in Warwick, NY: Style Counsel and Blue (

“A seed was planted by Warwick resident and business owner Kim Corkum when she started her ‘Think Pink’ initiative, a local fund raiser for breast cancer,” Mullally explained.

Goals for Hope LogoOur 9th annual Goals for Hope Women’s Soccer Tournament will take place on Saturday, August 4, 2012, at the soccer complex in LaGrangeville, NY. [map]

Goals for Hope is a women’s charity soccer tournament that raises funds for the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation.

The deadline for registering a team has ended — please come out and cheer on the teams!

Survivors are invited to write affirmations about how they have been affected by Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation. Written material should be sent to Rihana at (she can also help with the writing).

Even if you are not a soccer player, you can still come out and have fun cheering on your favorite team! There will be a concession stand with lunch, drinks and snack items throughout the day. Many wonderful items will be raffled off during the day.

Gaetan Boehm Banks, Goals for Hope 2012 honoreeDuring our 9th Goals for Hope tournament, we will be honoring breast cancer survivor Gaetan Boehm Banks. Tournament chair Mary Schanz said, “Gaetan, who was diagnosed in 2009, lives in Beacon with her husband Paul and their three children. She is very active in the Beacon Soccer League and the Southern Dutchess community.”

More than 700 women will be competing at four different levels of play. Co-Chairmen Mary Schanz and Judy Rose explained:

“All of the sports competitions that we sponsor are designed to be a friendly message emphasizing the benefits of exercise to all women. Goals for Hope Women’s Soccer Tournament is not about winning or losing but about participating and recognizing that we can be proactive about our health,” explained Mrs. Varunok.

2010 Tournament Facts:

  • Almost 700 women, 18 to 60+ years old, playing on 54 teams in divisions that range from Soccer Mom to Competitive 7 v 7.
  • Teams are comprised of women mainly from Dutchess, Putnam, Orange, Rockland, Ulster and Westchester Counties, NYC, Long Island and New Jersey.

Charity Baseball Tournament Sept. 21-23


NY Elite BaseballNew York Elite Baseball will hold a Baseball Tournament to support Miles of Hope, from Friday, September 21 through Sunday, September 23, 2012, at the Mt. Airy Sports Complex, New Windsor, NY, and the Town Of Newburgh L.L. Complex, Newburgh, NY.  Teams in age groups 9U through 19U are invited to register.
