The Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation awarded 6 scholarships to local high school seniors whose lives have been affected by breast cancer. The awards were given to three Dutchess county students, 2 Putnam County students and 1 Westchester County student.

“All of these high school seniors had outstanding academic records and extra curricular activities,” explained Miles of Hope Executive Director, Pari Forood. “What sets them apart is that they have a connection to breast cancer in their young lives.”

“The scholarship applicant is required to write an essay explaining how breast cancer has affected them and most write about a relative, but some kids talk of volunteering for cancer organizations or watching a friend go through the trauma of a breast cancer diagnosis in their family,” Ms. Forood said. “The essays are very touching and show a level of maturity well beyond the typical high school student.”
