DBS Remodel Raises $6500 for Miles of Hope

DBS Golf 2011 Presentation

DBS Employees with the check for Miles of Hope: Nadine Wiese, Mike Whalen, Jennifer Booth, Justin Noyes, Shane Kip, Chad “Jr.” McLain, Rob Wheeler, Bob Lutz, Maureen Bliss, Pete Viola & Brian Altmann

DBS Remodel of LaGrange, Dutchess County, decided it was high time they stepped up and recognized all of the people in their company and families who were affected by breast cancer.
Owner, Brian Altmann, decided the best way to honor those individuals would be to have a charity golf tournament and donate the proceeds to the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation.
“We knew that we wanted to have an event and we knew that our customers and suppliers liked to play golf, so we put the two together and had a fundraising day out at Casperkill Country Club,” Altmann explained.
Rob Wheeler, Chairman of the Tournament and a long time DBS employee said he had personal reasons to get involved:
“My mother was diagnosed 8 years ago,” Wheeler explained, “and I knew, once I read about Miles of Hope, that I wanted to donate money to them. They are the only local organization which gives the donations directly to the people who need them.”
The tournament took place in late October with 65 participants.
“We were thrilled when DBS contacted us and named us the recipient of the proceeds,” Pari Forood, Exec. Dir. of Miles of Hope explained. “They had a silent auction as part of the dinner after golf and a custom made guitar was created and donated just for this event. It was painted with our logo and bright pink!”

East Coast Salon Raises $2500 for Breast Cancer Programs

2011

East Coast Salon Staff

The East Coast Salon, 2776 West Main St. Wappingers Falls, NY, raised $2500 for the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation during a cut-a-thon held at the salon.

“We have a few clients who have had breast cancer and we wanted to do something special for them as well as for this worthy local charity,” Sue Gasperini, owner of the salon said.

“We came up with the idea of a cut-a-thon along with pink hair extensions and the staff was very excited.”

Miles of Hope is a 501-c-3 public charity with a mission to fund support services for people affected by breast cancer in the eight counties of the Hudson Valley.

“When Sue called to say they had raised over $2000, we were so impressed!” stated Miles of Hope Executive Director Pari Forood. “Many salons in the Hudson Valley run promotions for us especially during October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month and this year with 20 salons participating we received more donations than ever before in the foundation’s eight year history.”

Miles of Hope has given away more than one million dollars in eight years for support programs for people affected by breast cancer in the eight counties of the Hudson Valley.

Nancy Miller and Ellen Staino, Walk 2011 Organizers

To the Editor of the Poughkeepsie Journal,

As co-chairwomen of the Miles of Hope Community Walk held Oct. 2 at James Baird State Park, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all the sponsors, volunteers and supporters of this very successful event. This year there were more people who came out and walked than ever before. We are thrilled to report the event raised over $84,000!*

We can’t begin to thank everybody involved by name in this letter, the list would be too long; and we would be afraid we would leave someone out. But to the many people who supported this event, we are extremely humbled and grateful for your generosity.

Your support allows the mission of the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation to continue. All funds raised in the Hudson Valley are used to support programs in the Hudson Valley. Some of the programs include the Medical Gap Care Fund, scholarships for college-bound seniors, Peer-to-Peer Program and complementary medicine (massage therapy, reiki, exercise/dance). To all who supported the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation Community Walk we say thank you, thank you, thank you!

“Pin up program” at Adams Adams Fairacre Farms raises funds for Miles Of Hope

2011

The Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation received a donation from all three Adams Fairacre Farms stores from a pin up program the stores ran in September and October.

“Adams has been running this program for us for a couple of years each September and October,” explained Pari Forood, Miles of Hope Executive Director.

“This year, through the extraordinary efforts of Jen Noll and her team of cashiers, they were able to increase their donation considerably from last year’s $4200 donation. We are very grateful to everyone at Adams who helped us to raise this money in September and October, Breast Cancer Awareness month,” she said.

Jen Noll, Adams Human Resources Asst Director, explained that AT&T donated a smart phone as an incentive for the cashiers. “When the cashiers saw the prize for the cashier who encouraged the most donations, they really stepped it up,” she said.

“We can’t wait to add Wappingers (the new Adams location due to open shortly) to the mix next year and increase our donation to Miles of Hope,” she said.

“Adams Fairacre Farms has been generous to us since our inception,” explained Cathy Varunok, Miles of Hope co-Founder. “They donate food to Goals for Hope in August and help us with other events as well. We are indebted to them for their support throughout the years.”
