DBS Remodel Raises $6500 for Miles of Hope

2011
DBS Golf 2011 Presentation

DBS Employees with the check for Miles of Hope: Nadine Wiese, Mike Whalen, Jennifer Booth, Justin Noyes, Shane Kip, Chad “Jr.” McLain, Rob Wheeler, Bob Lutz, Maureen Bliss, Pete Viola & Brian Altmann

DBS Remodel of LaGrange, Dutchess County, decided it was high time they stepped up and recognized all of the people in their company and families who were affected by breast cancer.
Owner, Brian Altmann, decided the best way to honor those individuals would be to have a charity golf tournament and donate the proceeds to the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation.
“We knew that we wanted to have an event and we knew that our customers and suppliers liked to play golf, so we put the two together and had a fundraising day out at Casperkill Country Club,” Altmann explained.
Rob Wheeler, Chairman of the Tournament and a long time DBS employee said he had personal reasons to get involved:
“My mother was diagnosed 8 years ago,” Wheeler explained, “and I knew, once I read about Miles of Hope, that I wanted to donate money to them. They are the only local organization which gives the donations directly to the people who need them.”
The tournament took place in late October with 65 participants.
“We were thrilled when DBS contacted us and named us the recipient of the proceeds,” Pari Forood, Exec. Dir. of Miles of Hope explained. “They had a silent auction as part of the dinner after golf and a custom made guitar was created and donated just for this event. It was painted with our logo and bright pink!”

Miles of Hope Annual Appeal 2011

2011

Dear Miles of Hope Family,

Gap FundWe won’t beat around the bush. People with breast cancer need help now more than ever.

Our Medical Gap Care Fund provides emergency financial assistance for people in treatment for breast cancer who cannot pay a bill. It is administered by six social service agencies to service eight counties. We pay for expenses like transportation, fuel oil, rent, food, and clothing for children, medical expenses not covered by insurance, and phone bills.

We like to think we replace some of the hope lost with some of the hope we have stored up from seeing all of you at our fundraising events: Hoops for Hope Women’s Basketball Tournament, The Spring Brunch, and Family Fun Run, Goals for Hope Women’s Soccer Tournament and the Community Walk for Breast Cancer.

DONATE:
$25 if you would like to purchase a gas card for someone to get to their cancer treatments.
$50 to give one massage while someone with breast cancer is receiving their chemotherapy
$75 if you would like to purchase a gift card for groceries for a family having a financial crisis while going through treatment.
$100 to pay for one mammogram to save the life of a newly diagnosed individual
$500 to pay for a month of Healing Vibrations – our music program for patients and their families receiving treatment
$1000 for a scholarship for one college bound high school senior whose life was affected by breast cancer.

Donate with WePay Thank you for helping us help as many people as possible. Please make your donation on-line by credit card on WePay, or send your check, payable to Miles of Hope BCF, to P.O. Box 405, Lagrangeville, NY 12540.

“Pin up program” at Adams Adams Fairacre Farms raises funds for Miles Of Hope

2011

The Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation received a donation from all three Adams Fairacre Farms stores from a pin up program the stores ran in September and October.

“Adams has been running this program for us for a couple of years each September and October,” explained Pari Forood, Miles of Hope Executive Director.

“This year, through the extraordinary efforts of Jen Noll and her team of cashiers, they were able to increase their donation considerably from last year’s $4200 donation. We are very grateful to everyone at Adams who helped us to raise this money in September and October, Breast Cancer Awareness month,” she said.

Jen Noll, Adams Human Resources Asst Director, explained that AT&T donated a smart phone as an incentive for the cashiers. “When the cashiers saw the prize for the cashier who encouraged the most donations, they really stepped it up,” she said.

“We can’t wait to add Wappingers (the new Adams location due to open shortly) to the mix next year and increase our donation to Miles of Hope,” she said.

“Adams Fairacre Farms has been generous to us since our inception,” explained Cathy Varunok, Miles of Hope co-Founder. “They donate food to Goals for Hope in August and help us with other events as well. We are indebted to them for their support throughout the years.”
