Bright Pink Car Hits the Road Honoring Breast Cancer

2011

Pink CarPink Car 2Pink Car 3A new vehicle honoring the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation hit the road last week. The Hudson Cadillac Buick GMC Courtesy Car (see photo) will be seen around town in the Hudson Valley as well as on display at the Hudson Valley Auto Show at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie March 6.

Mike Mullaney, President of Hudson Cadillac Buick GMC, decided to increase breast cancer awareness by designating the GMC Acadia as the official Miles of Hope Courtesy Car.

“I have named the car for my sister who had breast cancer,” Mr. Mullaney explained. “She was diagnosed at the age of 38 and valiantly and without complaint fought for 16 years.  She passed away at age 54 in 1999.  She was and will always remain my hero. The car is called Dottie and my hope is that it will bring awareness to breast cancer prevention as well as donations to the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation.”

“The key is early detection,” explained Miles of Hope Co-Founder Cathy Varunok. “If you see a bright pink car driving down the road and it reminds you to get a mammogram, we are thrilled.”

“Along the same lines, if a pink car reminds you to exercise and focus on good nutrition and healthy habits, then the message is even that much better,” added Co-Founder Dana Effron.

For more information on Dottie, contact Pari Forood at Miles of Hope or  Michael Mullaney of  Hudson Cadillac Buick GMC (845-298-4700 or 914-475-3506).

Miles of Hope Annual Appeal

2010

Dear Miles of Hope Family,

As we approach the holiday season at the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation, we realize that we have so much to be thankful for.

In six years, after raising over $2.5 million dollars, we have awarded over $1,000,000 in grants. We thought you might like to know where some of the money went.

Co-Founder Cathy Varunok (center) with Miles of Hope Scholarship winners

Over 50 scholarships have been given to high school seniors whose lives have been affected by breast cancer.

Six social service agencies help us to administer the Medical Gap Care Fund in eight counties. This fund was created to provide funding for families who are either under-insured or have a financial emergency while in treatment. To date we have helped thousands of people by granting over $700,000.

We are currently partnering with Vassar Brothers Medical Center, St. Francis Hospital, St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, Benedictine Hospital and others to provide important complementary medicine programs for people in treatment for breast cancer.

A Peer-to-Peer program counsels the recently diagnosed who need a voice, an encouraging word or non-medical advice, from trained breast cancer survivors, thanks to Miles of Hope.

None of these programs would be possible without your continued support and generosity. To that end, we would welcome your holiday gift. If you want to fund a particular program please note this with your donation.

Thank you for helping us to help as many people as possible. You can make your donation either online at MilesofHope.org or by check to:
