Giving Trees at Gold’s Gyms
The three Hudson Valley Gold’s Gyms, in Poughkeepsie (LaGrange), Fishkill and Newburgh, are welcoming the holidays a little early this year with white holiday trees in the lobby of each location raising money for breast cancer support services.
“When we explained this idea to Gold’s they were thrilled to get involved,” explained Miles of Hope Executive Director, Pari Forood. “Gold’s Gyms always brings a team to our events and this year at the Goals for Hope Women’s Soccer Tournament, they talked to us about doing more for breast cancer awareness.”
The idea is simple: each Gold’s Gym location has a big white tree in the lobby; the ‘ornaments’ are pink paper breast cancer ribbons; you ‘purchase’ a ribbon and hang it on the tree with the donation going to Miles of Hope for breast cancer support services.
“We are the regional breast cancer organization,” explained Ms. Forood. “We don’t fund research; we just help people affected by breast cancer right here in the Hudson Valley.”
All of the ribbons have an amount printed on them from $25 to $1000. A sign by the tree gives examples of where the donation is directed:
$25 buys a gas card;
$75 pays for one mammogram;
$100 pays for a week’s worth of co-pays for radiation treatment;
$150 pays for a lymph edema sleeve;
$200 pays for a week’s worth of groceries;
$350 pays for a month of fuel for a home (gas and heat);
$500 pays for 10 transportations to/from cancer treatments;
$1000 pays for a college scholarship for one high school senior whose life has been affected by breast cancer.
