Dear Miles of Hope Family,
From time to time, we receive a letter from someone we have helped. Most times it is associated with our program for people who are in treatment for breast cancer who need assistance with their bills and expenses not covered by insurance. According to the most recent studies, almost one-third of cancer patients have out-of-pocket health care costs totaling 10% or more of their family income.
Here are some of their stories:
Robin was a 57 year old widow with 3 part time jobs when she received a breast cancer diagnosis. Miles of Hope paid off her propane bills and her medical bills so that she could have heat and treatment. “I would not be here without their assistance.”
Amy is a 54 year old stage IV breast cancer patient with cerebral palsy. Her electric wheel chair, which allowed her a degree of in- dependence, was damaged. Miles of Hope paid for its repair and a new battery. “I am so very grateful for this wonderful ‘liberating’ gift.”
Mary is a 44 year old mother of three sons, aged 12, 11, and 8. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and despite aggressive treatment, her disease progressed to stage IV. Miles of Hope helped her to pay bills however she was concerned about summer activity for her sons. Miles of Hope paid for their summer camp. “My life is very difficult right now but it is a relief to know that there is help for my children.”
