A new vehicle honoring the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation hit the road last week. The Hudson Cadillac Buick GMC Courtesy Car (see photo) will be seen around town in the Hudson Valley as well as on display at the Hudson Valley Auto Show at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie March 6.
Mike Mullaney, President of Hudson Cadillac Buick GMC, decided to increase breast cancer awareness by designating the GMC Acadia as the official Miles of Hope Courtesy Car.
“I have named the car for my sister who had breast cancer,” Mr. Mullaney explained. “She was diagnosed at the age of 38 and valiantly and without complaint fought for 16 years. She passed away at age 54 in 1999. She was and will always remain my hero. The car is called Dottie and my hope is that it will bring awareness to breast cancer prevention as well as donations to the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation.”
“The key is early detection,” explained Miles of Hope Co-Founder Cathy Varunok. “If you see a bright pink car driving down the road and it reminds you to get a mammogram, we are thrilled.”
“Along the same lines, if a pink car reminds you to exercise and focus on good nutrition and healthy habits, then the message is even that much better,” added Co-Founder Dana Effron.
